Death - again.

It's been a lot about Robron lately. I have to say that they are my no.1 ship right now, even if I really do enjoy Tilly, Dominac and McNight as well! But Robron is cutest right now. I think it's because they have been around the longest. But even so, it's hard to compare to Lalle, Chrolli, DeRo, Cenny and all the other old ships. I am just finding it hard to bond as much as I did before. But I still love all the ships today! And as I said, Robron is no.1 for me right now. And that's why I just can't stand if aaron dies! I don't believe he will, but still, I can't breathe properly before I know that he will survive. And speaking of death - I just hate it! I just can't understand why they have to kill off all the gays. My first post was about that subject and I keep coming back to it! I just don't understand why! There are so many great characters we will never see again. Ok, there's always Bobby Ewing, but that just doesn't work!

James Fletcher as Dylan Jenkins.

Like Dylan for example. Dylan Jenkins, the wonderful and beautiful creature will never come back! And that's Lindsey's fault! It's really a shame that his character never deleoped as he deserved. And to be honest, we need more transvestites in soap operas!

Jonny Labey as Paul Coker.

And Paul Coker! What did Eastenders think when they killed him off?! Haven't Ben Mitchell suffered enough? At least he's out now. But to bring such a lovely character to the show and then kill him just a year later... It's criminal! I just can't see Ben with anyone else right now!

PJ Brennan as Doug Carter.

I really miss Doug in Hollyoaks. Doug Carter was the third best thing that ever happened to Ste! Or if he comes in second together with John Paul maybe... Because first comes Brendan! Always Brendan. But Doug was awesome! And he was really good for Ste. Such a shame he had to die! He could really do a Bobby Ewing!

Dennis Grabosch as Roman Wild.

And there's of course my favourite Roman Wild. I just can't talk about that. Let's just say that me and Alles Was Zählt has a bone to pick about Deniz storylines and relationships after that Roman died. Just awful.

Chandler Massey as Will Horton.

And I have to mention Will Horton as well. Regardless if Chandler Massey or Guy Wilson plays him he didn't have to die! Days of our lives are good at bringing people back from the dead but they have stated that there will be no more of that. So Will can never come back. I know that there are a lot of PaulSon shippers out there but I still want Will back!

So, here's for all you soap opera writers: don't kill them off, just let them move away or get kidnapped or something! In that way they can come back, with a new actor if that's what's needed. It feels like they always regret it otherwise. That's why we have Bobby Ewings and Nicolas Barrels and others. If they would have killed off Johnny Carter for example, Ted Reill would never have been. So thank you for that Eastenders! But I still can't forgive you for Paul.

The Hollyoaks gays

Ok, because of the celebration of Hollyoaks 20 years I think I will have a small Hollyoaks special here on the blog. That could be a sequel, because there's just so much to tell! Hollyoaks has dealed with a lot of LGBT related issues through the years with two gay rapes, at least two transsexuals, a poly relationship, crossdressing more than once and lot's and lot's more. But let's just concentrate on the gay regular characters for a while.

James Sutton as John Paul McQueen.

It all started with John Paul McQueen in 2006. He fell in love with his best friend Craig Dean who he had a secret relatiosnhip with and both dated a DJ and a priest before he left the show in 2008. Thank gods he returned in 2012, after James Sutton made a litte voyage in Emmerdale as a straight character, who actually worked with Aaron Livesy. The world is quite small indeed. Then he slept with Ste's great big love, Brendan Brady, dated Ste's ex Doug for a short while, had a secret relationship with Ste's dad, Danny Lomax, before he ended up with Ste Hay himself! And they broke up and he also had an affair with his cousin's husband, Lockie. A lot has happened to John Paul McQueen! And I love him, both John Paul and James Sutton. I hope he will stay for a long time this time around!

Jake Hendriks plays Kieorn Hobbs.

So, Kieron Hobbs played by Jake Hendriks. The gay catholic priest who stopped preaching for love. He was a nice guy but I never really liked him. He was quite boring and he just wasn't Craig Dean! So I never really liked him with John Paul. But he didn't deserve to die. Damn Niall. Well, Kieron wasn't a regular for so long, about a half year, but I think he was a popular character in the show. Everybody liked the priest. Except for Myra McQueen for a while when she discovered his relationship with John Paul...

Kieron Richardson as Ste Hay.

And then there's the lovely Ste Hay. I have to say that he is lovely, even though he started up as a bad guy who tormented por Amy and cut her hair. Ste is just so dum, but of so wonderful! He can't help that he is a twat, because he is damaged goods. But he also has a good heart and you just have to love him! Even though he always takes the wrong decisions! Every time! But he is also very cute and funny. And I just love Kieron Richardson so much! he is an amazing actor! I don't always agree Ste in his choice of boyfriends though. He started off with Brendan Brady, who also abused him, then he dated the boring Noah Baxter for a while, then there was a bit more of Brendan, then Doug then more Brendan, then more Doug and then finally John Paul. Unfortunately he has moved on with Harry lately. I do ot approve and I am just waiting for Christmas and the McHay reunion that we are all waiting for!

Emmett J. Scanlan as Brendan Brady.

An then, my personal favourite, Brendan Brady. I know that he is a super villain, but it's just not possible to dislike him! He was really treating Ste like shit for so long, and he didn't really deserve our love right then, but Emmett J. Scanlan is doing such a tremendous job and he is just so brilliant! Brendan Brady will for ever be my favourite gay character in Hollyoaks, and that's because of Emmett. John Paul is the most sympathique character, but Brendan is just the best! He was so weird and funny. It's so obvious that Brendan has a lot of diagnoses and he makes a lot of sick stuff, but we always forgive him. I mean, is there anyone out there who doesn't love Brendan Brady? Ste was the love of his life but he also had a one night stand with John Paul as told before, and he also seduced Ste's boyfriend Noah just to get Ste back. He did everything for love except for sacrifice his sister. I am still a bit bitter for that. Damn you Brendan!

Law Thompson plays Noah Baxter.

I never liked Noah Baxter so I won't dwell on him. He was boring, he was totally wrong for Ste (rebound) and I never really got why he snogged Brendan. Ok, Brendan is amazing, but Noah hated him! I do not miss him at all.

P J Brennan as Doug Carter.

Doug Carter was Ste's first husband who kind of sorted him out when he was atrain wreck after Brendan. And Doug was lovely! He started off as straight, but then he came out after falling for Ste. And even though I am a Stendan shipper, I really liked Stug. They were just good together. And it might be so that I accepted Doug because I knew that Ste would choose Brendan anyway. In any case, they were really cute together and they were also very good for eachother. Unfortunately Doug had to die. That was really a shame. And I also liked Doug with John Paul. They were cute to. I miss Doug. I think Doug could come back as a ghost for Ste just like Steph Dean did for him. That would be great!

Steven Roberts as George Smith.

And here's an underrated gay character. George Smith was a regular in Hollyoaks in 2001-2014 and according to me he never got the gay storyline he deserved. It was just boring stuff with other character's in focus. He had one serious relationship with Vincent Elegba, but they were really boring together. He also had some kind of crush on Ste, who he also lost his virginity to, and he also almost had the hots for Danny Lomax a short while. I would like to have seen more of that. But at least he got a happy ending when he left Hollyoaks for London and Vincent. I hope he will come back some time I miss his funny character and his always amazing and a bit tacky clothes. I think he would be great with Scott actually! Could we please see that Hollyoaks?

John Omole as Vincent Elegba.

I don't really have much to say about Vincent. I haven't seen the storyline about him and George enough to have an oppinion about him, more than that it was quite boring and that Vincent seemed like a nice guy, but boring. Not enough sparks basically. But at least they got to have sex at last. And an happy ending. But boring.

Ross Adams as Scott Drinkwell.

Oh Scott how I disliked you in the beginning. But now I love you! Scott Drinkwell was a pain in the ass when he arrived because he was a threat to McHay, but now he is really funny and cute and I so would like to see him in a real storyline in the name of lööve. There's not much to choose from if George doesn't come back, that is, but for Harry or maybe Lockie. I think I could live with both the alternatives. He thinks that Harry is cute, but I think that he is maybe a bit young. But I would really like Lockie Campbell in a real "can't-live-without-eachother"-storyline, and why not with Scott? Or at least give him a great new character to play with! Just keep him of Ste and John Paul!

Parry Glasspool as Harry Thompson.

Last, and least right know, there's Harry Thompson. Harry is young and innocent and completely wrong for Ste if you ask me. If you read y blog you already know that I am not a fan of Starry. I see no sparks and I am just longing for McHay so much right know. I couldn't care less for Starry! Harry actually started of with a small crush for, and snog with, John Paul and I liked that much more. I could see it. But I just can't see Harry with Ste. It came from nowhere and makes no sense at all! Please break up soon!

So, that was all the regular gay characters in Hollyoaks. I don't think I have missed anyone. But there are a lot more to that show! Hollyoaks is really the best soap opera to watch if you are a faghag!

Happy 20th Hollyoaks!

Hollyoaks gays.

So, Hollyoaks turned 20 years! How great is that?! I guess it comes as no surprise that I am a huge Hollyoaks fan! Hollyoaks have had a lot of gay characters through the years. And not just that a lot of bisexuals, lesbians, crossdessers, transvestites and transgenders to. I guess that's why I love the show so much. That and much more! So can we just take a few moments to appreciate John Paul, McQueen, Kris Fisher, Craig Dean, Ravi Roy, Kieron Hobbs, Ste Hay, Brendan Brady, Noah Baxter, Doug Carter, George Smith, Vincent Elegba, Danny Lomax, Lockie Campbell, Scott Drinkwell and Harry Thompson. And many many more.

Gay Times front pages.

Let's also take some time to appreciate how Gay Times has appreciated the Hollyoaks beaty through the years. I think that Kieron Richardson is their favourite. Mine are Emmet J. Scanlan.. and James Sutton... and Kieron Richardson... and...

Starry

Parry Glasspool and Kieron Richardson.

Sorry guy but I am _not_ in love with Starry. Not at all. I like Harry a lot. He is a great guy and I really think his worth a real romance, but why Ste? It just came from nowhere! I mean, he had a thing for John Paul a while ago, and what made him go for his husband instead? Because that's what he is. Ste is still married to John Paul, and know he is snogging Harry while he is in a "serious" relationship with Sinead! I mean, what is that?! Sinead is not a gay man and Harry is 17! Hollyoaks, what are you doing? When are you going to bring back McHay, which is the most sane thing in Ste's lovelife since Brendan?! And Doug, for all means. I no there is a lot of anti-McHay shippers out there, but come on. You can't really be shipping Starry? A low-water mark from Hollyoaks. I hope Christmas day will come soon.

Halo

Some time ago I blogged about some favourite fanvids, among others a special one with Lucas and Edwin from Goede Tijden, Slechte Tijden. Well, as I told you a couple of days ago I haven't seen that storyline yet but I love the video anyway. And there's something very athmosphearic about that fanvid combined with that music. That is Halo with Beyoncé. Well, there's more great fanvids with that music.

How about my favourite couple of all time: Fervid? Ok, it's not the best picture quality, but there's Fer and David and what's not to like?

Well, there's another one. A little shorter, but a little better quality.

An there's a really great WilSon fanvid. WilSon when Chandler Massey played Will. I love that time. Ok, Will and Sonny are not my favourites, but they're really cute. Esecially in their early days.

But McDean are among my favourites. I think they're lovely! John Paul is lovely, whoever he is with! I really loved him with Craig and it breaks my heart again and again that Craig left him.

And speaking of Hollyoaks, here's Ste and Doug, that is: Stug. A really lovely couple. I loved them together, even though I was a Stendan shipper all through the storyline. Ste and Doug where good for eachother. I insist on that.

Another couple that was (or is because they're still together) good together was Christian and Syed in Eastenders. Even though there were lots and lots of angst and agony, they evolved eachother in a good way. Really really good for eachother.

And last but not least: Chrolli! One of the most amazing couples ever! Christian and Oliver was made for eachother and I will never forgive Verbotene Liebe for ruining that beautiful Romeo & Romeo lovestory!

And there's another one.

And another one. There can never be enough wonderful fanvids. Especially such as these.

McDean

I felt McDean deserved an own post. I love McDean. Even though I love McHay as well. But it all started with McDean.

Guy Burnet as Craig Dean and James Sutton as John Paul McQueen.

It is a quite classic storyline with two troubled teenagers who becomes friends and does everything for eachother. They do everything from get into eachothers fights to dates two best girlfriends. Craig Dean, who is played by Guy Burnet, is dating Sarah Barnes and they have a quite stable relationship for som time. John Paul on the other hand, who we all know is a closeted gay is dating Hannah Ashworth, who is quite a goose actually. Very wimpy indeed. They are a bit on-and-off, because John Paul is not really enjoing the relationship, with all that implies (snogging and sex), because he is really in love with his best friend Craig. He actually tells him at one time because he can't bear it anymore, which leads to a bit of knot of the thread for his and Craig's friendship. They are also a bit on-and-off actually.

The first kiss.

But the strong friendship leads to a drunken kiss at a party which Hannah sees, and you can only imagine the rest. John Paul is actually wrongly to take the blame for the kiss because he is gay, but it is so obvious that it is Craig who kisses him. Well well...

Tom Vaughan as Spike and James Sutton as John Paul.

Nothing really happens though, cause Craig still dates Sarah and Johhn Paul meets his first boyfriend Spike, played by Tom Vaughan. I kind of like Spike. He s a nice guy. But Craig doesn't really like him and Hannah absolutely hates him! For no reason! But Craig is a bit jealous and it all leads up to him not being able to resist John Paul anymore, so they end up having sex. All on Craig's initiative.

Craig and John Paul after their first time.

Of course, Craig has a bit hard to handle what happened, and he seems a bit regretful. But it doesn't take long before the both has a secret relationship. But Craig's problem is he loves both John Paul and Sarah, and he is not able to choose. At last, he does choose John Paul theoreticly, but in practice. It goes so far as that Craig and Sarah gets engaged and John Paul makes her find out about him and Craig on their engagement party. And mayhem is on.

Craig and John Paul.

But it turns out well, because Craig is happy with his "choice" and he asks John Paul to move to Dublin with him, where he is going to study. But of course, no happiness lasts in Hollyoaks, John Paul doubts that Craig really love him because he can't show affection in public and he dumps him on the airport. It is all very sad. Craig gets to go to Dublin himself.

James Sutton and Jake Hendriks.

Back home in Hollyoaks, John Paul starts to have a secret relationship with the local priest Kieron Hobbs (Jake Hendriks). What's so shocking about that you might ask, but Kieron is a catholic priest and you all know about the chastity vow. Kieron is a quite nice man and a fun character, even though he is a priest, but he is quite boring as a bofriend I think. I mean, he is not Craig. But Craig comes back and John Pauls half brother Niall (long story) kills Kieron and John Paul has a hard time delaing with that. He even decides not to go with Craigto Dublin like he promised, because he is tormented with guilt. And he actually loved Kieron...

The sunset ending.

But John Paul changes his mind in the last minute and meets up with Craig at the train station and they get their sunset ending at last. And it could have ended like that. But it didn't. James Sutton went to Emmerdale for a while, but he had the good taste of returning to Hollyoaks after some years. Guy Burnet didn't so the story was told that Craig left John Paul just about as their baby (Matthew) was about to be born and John Paul slept with Brendan, dated Doug for a while, was Danny's dirty secret for a while before he ended up with Ste. And there we are now in a very messy HIV-storyline. I love John Paul and Ste together, and I really am a McHay shipper, but I am also a McDean shipper. But I've told you that before.

I really like the McDean storyline though. The story has just the right amount of agony as I like, and the actors, especially James Sutton, are brilliant! But Craig is straight though. He just fell i love with John Paul, an I guess it was expected that the love story would end. Sad though. And if fthe writers would like to reunite McDean in case of James Sutton and/or Kieron Richardson who plays Ste decieds to leave the show, I wouldn't be disappointed. Providing that also Stendan would be reunited of course. Beacause I am both a McDean, McHay and a Stendan shipper, and a sunset ending with any of the couples would make me satisfied. Or all of them, in some kind of poly relationship would do as well.

The McHay wedding

Kieron Richardson as Steven Hay and James Sutton as John Paul McQueen.

There was a Hollyoaks wedding on Christmas day, and it was awsome! The first proper same-sex wedding (Ste and Doug doesn't count because it was only a civil partnership) just a few days ago between Ste and John Paul.

John Paul and Ste with the hair back in the days.

Well, let's rewind a bit. I can tell you that John Paul and Ste couldn't stand eachother for several years. John Paul used to be together with Craig (and Spike and then Kieron), then had a one night with Brendan and then dated Doug and Danny before he ended up with Ste. Ste on the other hand messed around with Brendan for a while, were together with Noah, entered a civil partnership with Doug before he ended up with Brendan again who went to prison, made up with Doug who died before he ended up with John Paul. A bit incestuous, but oh so beautiful! Don't get me wrong, I am a Stendan shipper. But I am also a Stug and McDean shipper. I kind of also liked John Paul with the priest actually and I didn't mind him with Doug. But I am also a McHay shipper. It really is abeautiful love story, even though they had quite a bumpy ride (death, drugs, infidelity, you the usual soapy stuff). And there is more to come.

The first same sex church wedding i Hollyoaks history.

But, why is this wedding so awsome? Well, of course because of the cuteness in this couple. I love both John Paul and Ste, and James Sutton and Kieron Richardson has amazing chemistry, so it is a joy to watch. But the wedding is also very important for human rights. Actually, british same sex couples have just been allowed to get married since March this year. If you live in England and Wales that is. If you're scottish you had to wait until 16th og December this year. That is just two weeks ago. If you live in Northern Ireland you might never be able to marry the person you love if it is a person of the same sex as you. And that is awful. If you would like to see the McHay wedding and the priest being a little bit poltical, watch the video below. Long live love and McHay!

And also, this was kind of a dress rehersal for Kieron Richardson who will be getting married to his long term boyfriend Carl Hyland this spring. Yay!

To prioritize

Stendan in Dublin.

I've just finished the Stendan storyline from Hollyoaks and it was an awful ending. Even though I knew what was going to happen (Brendan get's prisoned for life) I was crying my eyes out. It was utterly awful! I really hope there will be a better ending eventually. I mean, som day Kieron Richardson (Ste) has to leave the series or if the series will be cancelled, they might maybe bring Brendan Brady (Emmet J. Scanlan) back? Just for an episode o two (he's got a lot on, rightly, because he is absolutely brilliant) so he and Ste can leave together? I for one is hoping for that at least. I mean the more Emmet J. Scanlan/Brendan Brady we get, the better!

So this leaves me with the post Stendan blues. What to do know? What am I going to watch? And I really need to prioritize. I mean, I don't have endless amounts of time watching gay storylines with a full time job and all, and no one is paying me for watching soap operas so I have to prioritize. I am currently watching the ongoing storylines of Johnny Carter in Eastenders, Elias, Lari, Miska and Kalle in Salatut Elämät, Will and Sonny in Days of our lives even though I am behind in the Johnny storyline generally and in the WilSon storyline especially. And I am actually even watching the Olli storyline from Verbotene Liebe even though we're on a break since I haven't watching Olli since Christian left about for the last time about a year ago. But I am watching them all.

Deniz and Roman.

And I also have the DeRo storyline from Alles Was Zählt to finish, which I have actually just taken up again. And I also have some more Hollyoaks to watch. I have a bit of McCarter (John Paul and Doug), John Paul and Danny, McHay (John Paul and Ste), George and Vincent and also some Kris Fischer and Ravi to watch, even though I think all of them is not complete. And I really love Hollyoaks so I definitely will be watching one or two of those storylines soon. And if there will be some more Ringo action in Unter Uns I will be watching that to.

Noah and Luke from As The World Turns

But I am also very eager to start watching anything new as well. I am extra keen on watching the dutch Lucas and Edwin (Ludwin) story that I've gotten hold of thanks to readers (thank you so so much!), the Luke and Noah (Nuke) storyline from As The World Turns or maybe the Aaron and Jackson storyline from Emmerdale.

Adrian and Javier aka David and Fer.

And I am also very very very eager to watch Fervid again. Fer and David from spanish Física o Química are really my favourite couple and I really feel that I need to watch them again. I have cravings.

So what to prioritze? Any suggestions?

Stendan ending

Are you like me not satisfied with the Stendan ending? Do you like me, hope that Emmett J. Scanlan will return as Brendan Brady in Hollyoaks, even though you know he lots of other stuff on his mind nowdays, so Ste and Brendan can have their sunset ending, their happily ever after? Then you really should watch this animated much better ending!

It is absolutely amazing and I hope it will be reality even though it's quite unlikely. I actually like Ste (Kieron Richardson) with both Doug (PJ Brennan) and John Paul (James Sutton). I think it's because I like Ste so much. But even though I didn't mind Ste with Doug (before he died) och do mind Ste with John Paul, there is just one true love for Steven Hay, and that is Brendan Brady. For real. På riktigt.

Why can't they just be happy?

Storylines with gay couples in soap operas often seem to contain a lot of unhappiness. Love stories in common contains a lot of unhappiness in soaps of course, even the straight ones, because of the drama. But it beats me that gay love stories have a lot of ingredients in common. It often starts with one parted love and a lot of denial from one of the characters and not seldom a little bit of abuse between the lovers. And when they finally becomes a real couple at least one of them just have to be unfaithful, there is a lot of on-and-off and then of course, the death comes. Don't get me wrong, straight people also dies in soaps, but for me it kind of hurts more when the gay person, who never really was happy because of the ingredients mentioned above, has to die. And leaves devastated partner behind. Just as i Brokeback mountain. There are exceptions of course, but there has been a lot of dead gays:

Fer Rodondo played by Javier Calvo.

Fernando "Fer" Redondo - Física o Química (ESP)
Well of course Fer has to die! They'd only just decided to cancel the show beacause of decreasing audience and they had just two more episodes two film when they decided to kill Fer. He is getting shot by a bullied student who thinks it's a good idea to bring a gun to school and lock the doors a little bit. In the same episode that him and David finally made up and got back together realising what is inportant in life - that is: love. They just wouldn't go for a happy ending. No, that is mainstream. Upsetting! Poor David has to live without the love of his life, but hey, shit happens when you are gay!

Roman Wild played by Dennis Grabosch.

Roman Wild - Alles was zählt (DE)
Deniz and Roman. Another on-and-off couple. Hey but of course, they are gay. A wonderful figure skater who dies from a brain tumor on the ice in the arms of his great love. Beatiful but unnecessary. Beautiful figure skaters doesn't deserve to die, not even in soap operas. Romans and Deniz's story contains a lot of beautiful, hot, happy and funny scenes, but there still is a lot of cheating and hurting. And we want Roman to live and love and skate! Bloody brain tumor.

Doug Carter played by P J Brennan.

Doug Carter - Hollyaoks (GB)
This is one of these annoying deaths when the person in question is in a big disaster (bomb explosion) but survives, then survives another disaster (collapsing building) and then dies anyway. Unnötig as they would say in Germany! Oh and I forgot to tell you, Doug and his big love Ste was just about to leave for a new start and a new life. We can't let that happen can we?

Edwin Bouwhuis played by Raynor Arkenbout.

Edwin Bouwhuis - Goede tijden, slechte tijden (NL)
Edwin could be really happy with his love Lucas (after some on-and-off, of course) when Edwin catches some kind of deadly virus and dies, just as him and Lucas reunites. Enough said!

Luke Fuller played by Billy Campbell.

Luke Fuller - Dynasty (USA)
Ok, now whe are talking the 1980's in USA. It is not surprising that this storyline is really chaste and miss a lot of juicy details. I can't even recall that the couple of Steven Carrington and Luke Fuller gets to share a kiss. There were a lot closing doors in the most exciting moments this time. I think they finally got to hug each other in Moldavia when they decided to move in together. But of course, there is a terrorist attack in the middle of Amandas wedding and Luke gets shot in the head and dies. So much for that happiness. But a plus for a gay storyline in a 1980's soap. They were rare.

As devastating as it would have been to see Fer, Roman, Doug, Edwin and Luke to leave the series without their great loves, I rather would have wanted them to live. A good gay is a gay who is alive, even if it's off screen. Unnecessary deaths are just that - unnecessary. Därmed basta!
