Parents...

Chryed and Syed's family. And Amira.

Watching Chryed I also got reminded of how awful his parents are most of the time! Ok, they are muslim, and the storyline is really important, but I just hate when parents are homophobes! It's the most heartbreaking thing to ever witness! And Nitin Ganatra and Nina Wadia (Zainab & Masood) made a really good job portraing dirtbags! I lost count how many times they disowned Syed! But, fortunately, they came to turns with it eventually. When Christian and Syed finally got married they were almost even sweet!

Sam Strike & Kellie Bright.

And speaking of Eastenders, Zainab and Masood has not been the only ones. When Johnny Carter (Sam Strike/Ted Reilly) came out early in 2014 his mother Linda Carter just couldnt accept it! I mean, in 2014! His dad, Mick (Danny Dyer) was much more supportive and relaxed about it. But Linda was just awful! Ok, she has gotten over it now but I just can't forgive her for it! She is always going to be poison to me!

Lari & Ilkka.

Another classic homophobic biggot is Ilkka Väänänen (Ari-Matti Hedman) from Salatut Elämät. We all thought that he might be ok when he didn't make any fuzz right there and then when he saw Lari and Elias on the sofa when he forgot his wallet. But we were so wrong! Another dad disowning his son and he even tried to "cure" him by sending Lari to an anti-gay camp. Just awful! Poor Lari! I wonder what would have happened to Larias if Ilkka weren't such a jerk?

Clemens Löhr & Alexander Becht.

This is actually quite interesting. When Nik Breidenbach played Alexander Cöster in GZSZ we was a homophobe, but when Clemens Löhr took over the part he was not. Not as much at least. Early in the days, Alexander of some reason believed that lenny was gay and Lenny tricked Alexander that he was just because he was a homophobic bully as a father. Not really nice at all. But when they changed actor and Lenny got together with Carsten everything was forgiven and forgotten. I like the new Alexander better. Definitely.

Jo Weil & Thore Schölermann.

Even the wonderful Oliver Sabel had a homophobic mother. His aunt Charlie was really nomal, but his mother Henriette was bitter and religious and didn't want her son to marry the love of his life. Christian that is. But she finally came around. But she was that unimportant that there's no good pictures of her on the net. That might as well be just as good. I never liked her.

Dennis Grabosch & Hartmut Volle.

Roman Wild in Alles Was Zählt even lied about his parents living in Australia because they were homophobes who had disowned him. It was just because Roman's little brother Florian moved/fled to Roman that we got to meet Roman's biggoty father Egon. I would rather have been without that acquaintance. Really. He never became better. He was just creapy.

Scott & Lisa Evans.

Surprise surprise, there's also American religious homophobic and biggoty parents. When Oliver Fish in One Life to Live finally came out his parents didn't approve ofcourse. Fortunately for us, Fish chose Kyle and not his mother. A fun fact is that it was Scott Evans' real mother Lisa who played barbara Fish for some episodes. We can't really accuse Lisa Evans for being agreat actor, but who is in a soap opera hey? Except for Danny Miller!

Daniel Hugh Kelly.

And I don't think anyone could accuse Winston Mayer for being a cozy and sweet guy. He was just awful! A manipulative stridspitt (that's swedish. Try working out what it means if you can!) that only cared about himself. He even tried to kill Noah's (Jake Silbermann) great love Luke (van Hansis). Luke got shot and couln't walk for while just because of this awful man! Every time he came back the Nuke storyline just got a little bit more angstly. Did not like him at all.

Nicolas Herman & Bernard Allouf.

Words can't enough how much I detest Yves Barrel, the father of Nicolas Barrel from Plus Belle la Vie. He is just pure evil! Homophobic, murderous, violent, manipulative, abusive... He is just it all. And that's not a good thing. The only good thing about him was that he disappeared eventually. The bad thing was that Nicolas disappeared about the same time. I miss Nicolas! It's a wonder he ended up such a nice person (when he wasn't a druggie) with that father. He and Egon Wild is kind of the same character. And that's no good thing!

Joshua Pascoe and Steve McFadden.

And let's go back to where we started. Eastenders. ben Mitchell (Joshua Pascoe/Harry Reid) has not had it easy. Phil Mitchell, his father, is not a very nice man. Ben has a homophobic father who kind of maid him get a beard not to loose him, his mother came back from the dead and he also was in prison for killing his stepmother's best friend. But I believe that was an accident... Anyhow, I don't ever think Phil Mitchel will approve of his gay son. Even though he is trying. But fake it you make it is not reallyPhil Mitchell's strong side. But I am open for being convinced otherwise!

Really Eastenders? Again?!

Abi Branning & Ben Mitchell.

Are you for real Eastenders?! Haven't we seen this before in hmm... Eastenders?! Yes we have. Is it really necessary to have all the gay characters making some girl pregnant? So, next on the list is Ben Mitchell (Harry Reid). Again! Is this the end of Pen? I refuse to believe that! This is 2016 and this is the year that every gay storyline is going my way! To show you how used this plot is just keep reading.

1982-ish - Steven Carrington

Jack Coleman and some baby.

Ok, it was kind of off-screen, and Steven Carrington (Jack Coleman) was actually married to the mother Sammy-Jo (Heather Locklear) but he was gay and he did make some girl pregnant. If he just had come out when he wanted, that would never have happened. So, already in the 80's in Dynasty for heaven's sake!

2009 - Oliver Fish

Scott Evans and some baby.

In 2009 Oliver Fish  (Scott Evans) from One Life to Live was so deep down in the closet that he had to sleep with Stacy Morasco to feel better when he was drunk. And she wanted to get pregnant so win-win I guess. But Stacy died and daddy had a new boyfriend so Sierra Rose got to daddys instead and actually, even though I don't like babies in soaps, I would really have liked to see more of the really cute family of Fish, Kyle and Sierra Rose. It's a shame that USA is full of homophobic biggots among all the nice people there, so the characters had to leave the show, of course.

2010 - Syed Masood

Marc Elliott and some baby.

The first time Eastenders did it. Syed was the muslim guy who felt he had to get married to a woman to please his parents and who ever, and when his wife Amira got to know that her husband was gay she was already pregnant, but she left Walford and Syed got to meet his daughter for the first time in 2012. But Syed's boyfriend Christian Clarke (John Partridge) is delighted because they are planning to get a baby anyway and he does call Yasmin his and Syed's daughter more than once. An Amiras. But it seems that it is working out. But I am wondering, when is both Syed and Christian doing a guest appearance together? We miss you Chryed!

2010-ish Deniz Öztürk

Igor Dolgatschew and aothers and some baby.

In 2010 or something Deniz (Igor Dolgatschew) is drunk and sleeps with his father's girlfriend Jessica. That is the final stroke for DeRo I think. Ok, the got back together in the end but it was never the same. Roman died and Deniz got back to just girls and he meets his son Jonas once in a while. This was a really really reaaally lousy storyline fron Alles Was Zählt. I hated it. I don't want to talk about it.

2011 - Ben Mitchell

Steve McFadden and some baby.

There's no picture with both Ben and his daughter Lexi so we have to do with granpa Mitchell instead. Well, it seems like Ben doesn't really care about his baby, but he kind of was in prison back then so we never really had a storyline with those two. And I guess the writers kind of forgot about it at the time whe he got out or something. In 2011 Ben Mitchell (then played by Joshua Pascoe) slept with Lola Pearce while he was drunk and I guess it was some kind of gay-straight experiment. So, if Ben already has an "accident" child, why is he making another? We all know that he is gay.

2012 - Will Horton

Chandler Massey and some baby.

In 2012 Will Horton had an one-night stand with his ex Gabi and of course she got pregnant. Ok, this is not the worst baby-storyline and Arianna got to very loving fathers in Will and Sonny (Freddie Smith) but babies in soap operas are so boring! No, I do not approve Days, I do not approve.

2014 - Ste Hay

Kieron Richardson, Ross Adams and some baby.

So even in Hollyoaks. Ste Hay (Kieron Richardson) had av very drunk one-night stand with the dreadful Sinead O'Connor in 2014 and that resulted in baby Hannah. Ste's husband John Paul (James Sutton) accepted it but Ste got and had a crush on some boring guy named Harry and I don't really care anymore. It could have been so good with Ste, JP, Leah, Lucas, Matthew and Hannah, but no. I am disappointed.

2014 - Lari Väänänen

Ronny Roslöf and some baby.

And also in 2014 in Finland. Salatut Elämät also wants to do the baby storyline. Lari (Ronny Roslöf) also had a drunk one-night stand (there's a lot of those) with a girl, Sanni, who just happens to be the little sister of Kalle (Pete Lattu) Lari's future boyfriend. Boring, unecessary drama, the baby doesn't add any good to the soap, can't you just let Lalle to be happy?! I would.

And of course, there's more gay characters with babies in soap operas, Brendan Brady and John Paul McQueen for instance, but Brendan was married and an irish catholic back then and JP actually got baby Matthew with Craig before Craig shove of, so I don't think that those count. But do you see know Eastenders just how old this is? Why can't you just come up with something new? I am not looking forward to this!

Kish again

Oliver Fish and Kyle Lewis.

This autumn is really dreadful. I needed something cosy with a happy ending. So I rewatched Kish. And I really did enjoy it! American soaps and storylines are not my favourites. There's just something about the studios (even though One Life to Live did take place outside. Sometimes. I've seen trees), the moral and the plots that I don't really love. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate them, but I just like British and German soaps better. But I realised how much I really like this one while watching it again! It is just lagom. And lagom is a Swedish word you really need! It's way better than smörgåsbord and ombudsman. Anyway, I think Kish is just enough, romantic, enough sexy, enough dramatic and enough American. Its such a shame they got rid of Kyle and Oliver. And later they cancelled the show so a come back is not believable. But I think a spin-off or a cross-over would be most welcome! Why not i General Hospital? I mean, Kyle is a doctor after all!

Brett Claywell.

Ok, so I know you are supposed to like Oliver Fish the best because he is such a cutie and such a goody-goody, but I do not agree! Ok, he is a cutie and a goody-goody, but I just think that Kyle is amazing! Ok, he is in the border of being a bad guy because of the blackmailing and stuff, but I think he proves to being a real good guy after all! He is such a loveable character! He just made some bad choices. And Brett Cleywell who plays Kyle is just amazing! And h has the cutest smile! Almost as cute as Dan Feuerriegel. But just almost. In my oppinion the most memorable Kish sceen is when Kyle kisses Oliver in the alley as says: "We meant something!". Just amazing.

Scott Evans and Brett Claywell.

And it's obvious that Scott Evans and Brett Claywell do enjoy eachothers company and like working together. So, where's the spin-off!

Hotshots

There are some gay characters in soap operas that have, how to say it... quite fancy occupations! Or at least occupations where I guess being gay is not a walk in the park. Police as an example. I imagine that it is not that easy to come out as a police officer. The story of Oliver Fish in One life to live tells us that, and I do believe that it is not just fiction.

Oliver Fish.

Oliver Fish (Scott Evans) had a really hard time coming out after years and years of denial, and as he feared, his parent were not supportive at all. But as far as I can remember his collegues were alright. And he also had the support of his beloved Kyle.

Menno Kuiper.

And then we have Menno Kuiper (Dave Mantel) in Goede Tijden, Slechte Tijden. He was the lover of the regular Lucas Sanders, and they even got married. But I read somewhere that Menno did beat Lucas up and then he disappeared from the series. I still haven't started with this Dutch soap, but it is my summer project, so I have to get back to you on that.

Nicolas Barrel.

And here's my sweetie Nicolas Barrel (Nicolas Herman) from Plus Belle La Vie. I just adore him! Both the character and the actor! A sweeter guy is really hard to find! He started out as a cop, and also had a hard time with his family. His collegues appreciated him a lot, but his father was a real homophobe, and we understand that Nicolas became a cop to prove his manliness to his father. Poor Nicolas. But it seems he enjoyed it anyway. Until he had to fake his death and work undercover. And then he became a lawyer instead! And after he came back to life and chocked the hell of his boyfriend Thomas, he continued working as a lawyer. I like the new Nicolas, but I kind of miss the old police-Nicolas anyway...

Florian Estève.

And speaking of men of the law, Thomas' new boyfriend after Nicolas, Florian (Franck Borde), was even a judge! But I don't really get how judges work in France. I think that he worked more as a prosecutor. He was very much out on the fields. But he was also a cutie and you can't really dislike him, even if you are Thomas/Nicolas-shipper. Florian was a really lovely guy. And also, a little bird whispered that Thomas is going to date a doctor after Florian. But I have to get back to you on that to.

Kieron Hobbs.

The most controversial character has to be Kieron Hobbs (Jake Hendriks) in Hollyoaks who was a priest. A catholic such. And as you know, they have a chastity vow. He broke that a lot of times with Jon Paul, deservedly, because later he got murdered by John Paul's half brother. At least he got some shagging before he died! And love, of course!

Kalle Laitela.

And we do have a lot of doctors. My favourite are Kalle Laitela (Pete Lattu) in Salatut Elmät. He is just such a lovely character. And he also got promoted to some kind of head physician lately. And he has got his fair share of homophobia through the years. His father, Ismo, was a real homophome back in the days and his collegues seem to be assholes! There's a lot of gossip and bullshit talk about him and his boyfriend Lari, just because Lari is a little bit younger. But that is no biggie, really!

Kai Seebach.

Another favourite is Kai Seebach (Alexander Gier) in Alles Was Zählt. He was working as a sports physician in the Steinkamp Sport and Wellness Centre and had a love story with the very closetered football player Joscha. He was just a really nice character and I do miss both him and Joscha very much! When will AWZ have a new gay storyline?!

Tom Seifert.

Another German doctor is Tom Seifert (Kay Böger) in Verbotene Liebe who used to date lli, and then dated Olli and then went back to Ulli, but after the character left the show. But we know that because we got a little sneak peak into Tom and Ulli's lives when VL had their 10th anniversery. Tom was also a really nice character who always wanted all well. From that point, I think he and Olli was very suibtable for eachother. But I am a Tulli shipper. Totally!

Dr Jo Helmke (and Olli).

And it seems like Olli has a thing for doctors, because after things went nasty with Christian Olli had a relationship with Dr Jo Helmke (Mickey Hardt). The sleazebag. I am sying that without knowing anything about him. But he looks sleazy and everyone who takes Christian's place is a sleazebag. And that's how it is.

Lucas Jones.

Last but not least we have Dr Lucas Jones (Ryan Carnes) i General Hospital. Well, he was a bit of a unnapproachable doctor, and it took a while for him to start working as one. He was whining something about not being able to be such a god a doctor as his adoptive father. Whiner. But now it's just as he has never done anything other than working as a doctor When he is not making out with Brad. Then it's just he has never done anything but that. But we don't get nough deama from this couple, I have to say. A slower storyline you have to look hard for!

John Paul McQueen.

And you also get a bonus. It might not be any status working as a teacher in Sweden (hich it should be!), but it seems that it's a little bit better in he UK. So therefor I give you John Paul McQueen (James Sutton). The teacher. And also one of my favourites. I think that John Paul has a very important occupation!

Summer break

Ronny Roslöf as Lari and... a baby.

So, last thursday there was the season finale of Salatut Elämät. No exciting Lalle-scenes but they threw this at us out of the blue! If you, like me, don't speak Finnish, I can tell you that Lari is asking Sanni if Ilja (the baby) is his because just like that he remembered that he and Sanni had sex once a while ago. Well, he did remember that after Kalle told him that Janne is not the father of the baby. The actually had sex on the night when Elias and Miska celebrated their engagement. And that was before Lari hooked up with Kalle! Thank gods for that. But we never got to see Sanni's answer so we have to wait until August/September before we know if Lari is the father. I guess he is. And that is reaöy weird. That makes Kalle both uncle and stepfather to the baby. Also, this gay-boy-knocks-up-girl-which-results-in-baby storyline is so unique in soap operas. We have never seen it before. Not in Days of our lives (Will and Gabi), One life to live (Oliver and Satcy) och Hollyoaks (Ste and Amy and Sinead!). I mean really, give us something new! But the summer spin-off Satula will start soon and I do hope for some Lalle-snogging in that one! Last years spin-off gave us some Larias-snogging, but that is so last season!

Just Kish

Kyle Lewis and Oliver Fish.

This is Kish. And they are awfully cute. Kish are Kyle Lewis and Oliver Fish from the american daytime soap One Life to Live. Unfortunately One Life to Live is not broadcasted anymore, but it was one of Americas longest broadcasted series with more than 43 years on the ABC. Oliver Fish first appeared in 2008 and Kyle Lewis appeared in 2009.

Scott Evans and Bret Claywell.

Oliver Fish, the policeman, were played by Scott Evans and the med student Kyle Lewis werw playd by Bret Claywell. When the character of Kyle Lewis stepped into the series in 2009 Oliver was deep into the closet. He dated his room mate, a girl, and no one but Kyle new the truth. And he knew that because he and Oliver used to be frat boys. And lovers. And Kyle comes with the dark secret and Oliver is very threatened by Kyle and denies his homosexuality very much. Classic.

Cozy Kish.

After some snogging in the alley and being discovered, lot's of deny from Oliver and a suffering Kyle, Kyle meets another guy, Nick, and almost marries him, he realizes that he only loves Oliver, and Oliver gives in. He is ready for some gay love.

The sex scene.

But unfortunately America was not ready. Well the couple hadn't made out since college and of course they wanted to have sex. But obviously America didn't want them to have sex. After the episode where Kyle and Oliver had sex for the first time, a delicate and beautiful scene where there are naked upper boddies, kissing and lying on the bed, with trousers on (and lots and lots of candles) the viewers raged. The raging viewers somehow got the writers to write out the characters from the series right away. After the sex scene was broadcasted Kyle and Oliver only got to shoot sex more episodes. And this came very inconvenient for the storyline. Because, of course, the episodes are broadcasted some time after it's being shooted, and when they had to write out the guys from the series they were involved in a very intriguing storyline.

Oliver, Kyle and Sierra Rose.

Oliver became a father you know. Before he and Kyle got it together and Oliver was in denial he was a little bit used by Stacy Morasco who wants to become pregnant to decieve another guy that it is his (normal in soaps) and then Stacy dies and Oliver realizes that Sierra Rose is his. And before the storyline ends Oliver gets the custody of Sierra Rose and he and Kyle desides to raise her together. Isn't that a storyline you would want to see? No wonder One Life to Live got cancelled. And to be honest, it is a quite crappy soap. I didn't really like any other character for real, or maybe it was the actors I didn't like, and the storylines were quite crappy. Like any other modern american soap to be honest. Or am I wrong? But I miss Kish because they were really cute and the actors were great. The interacted very well. Shame on you One Life to Live to let raging americans destroy such a beautiful couple. I will say it again, no wonder it got cancelled. But at least they got a happy ending.
