Startitis

In the knitting world there is a phenomenon called "startitis" which means that you start new projects all the time. I suffer from severe startitis. I love casting on a new project, and I love finishing to, but the stuff in between can be quite boring sometimes. But I can assure you, there's startitis in the daytime-faghag world to. I have just suffered from it.

Paulo and Miguel in O Beijo do Escorpião.

A few weeks ago I started watching the portuguese telenovela O Beijo do Escorpião with the storyline of Paulo and Miguel which was lovely! After seeing that I really just wanted some new stuff with new characters and slightly shorter storylines. I started a few. Among others I started the agentinian telenovela Botineras.

Manuel and Lalo in Botineras.

I've already told you about Manuel and Lalo from Botineras which is a lovely storyline, with a happy ending! Blimey! A relatively short beautiful storyline with a happy ending! What's not to like?! So please watch it. You will not regret it!

Conor and Justin from 6 Degrees.

And last week I started watching the Conor and Justin storyline from the North Irish drama series 6 Degrees. The series is about some students living together in a student dormitory in Belfast. One of the main cast is Conor Martin, played by Cillian O'Sullivan who is a closetered football player (but I am not sure about that football. Conor is wearing to short shorts for a football player and I think that they are using their hands a bit too much) who finally is forced to come out. His boyfriend Justin Pollock, who is played by Ben Peel, is unfortunately moving to USA and the coouple has a really long distance relationship.

Liam in 6 Degrees.

In the third season (which is airing right now) a third gay character shows up which is Liam Madigan (Dermot Murphy) and I dont like him. He is complicating things for Conor and Justin. But I like the series a lot. And yes, Ben Peel is the guy who plays Jimmy Olsen i The Fall. I like him.

Thomas and Florian in Plus Belle La Vie.

Well, and this week I had an urge to start watching the Thomas and Florian storyline from the French soap Plus Belle La Vie. I've known about it for a while and I guess they are ranked as a super couple. But, I had to be reminded by dear faghag friend that there was someone else before Florian for Thomas. I was thinking about skipping that storyline but decided to watch it anyway. Before Florian there was Nicolas.

Alexandre Thibault as Nicolas Barrel.

Nicolas Barrel is a cop who works in the Mistral area in Marseille where everything takes place in Plus Belle La Vie. Thomas met him through Leo who Thomas think might be his father for a while, but he isn't and their love story starts quite uncomplicated. They meet, fancy eachother, get to know eachother and falls in love. But their love story is just in the starting blocks when they change the actor who plays Nicolas.

Nicolas and Thomas in Plus Belle La Vie.

Just a few episodes in to their storyline Alexandre Thibault is replaced by Nicolas Herman. And I kind of fell in love with hime immediately! Nicolas is such a loveable and sweet character and Nicolas Herman is really cute! I love both Nicolas and Thomas and I really don't want that storyline to end! But I know that it will... I was really not imagining that I would fall in love in that storyline as I did, so it's was a pleasant surprise! I am wondering what I will think of the storyline with Florian after watching this... I hope I like it to and I hope that Thomas and Nicolas ends as well as it could be so I won't be so bitter when I start watching Thomas and Florian.

Laurent Kerusoré as Thomas Marci.

Thomas btw, is also a very loveable character. He is fun and sweet and I really like him. Even though I have to confess that right now, I am a bit more in love with Nicolas than in Thomas. But that might change to. I am so much looking forward to watch everthing that Plus Belle La Vie has to offer!

Botineras

The Botineras main cast.

So I started watching Manuel and Lalo from Botineras. I've seen 25 episodes and I love it already! And a new telenovela is just what I need right now. Right now I really need to watch storylines that already has an ending, because all the soaps I am watching are giving me angst. Right know I feel angst about Looking because I am convinced that the special episode we are going to get will end with Patrick and Richie getting back together and I don't want that! I have angst because of Hollyoaks and because Ste and John Paul is in kerfuffle with all the HIV, Sineads baby, Sineads cousin that will show up and because of John Paul snogged with Harry. I am sure we're in for a long wait until McHay will be happy. I have angst because of Robron i Emmerdale because Robert is married and Aaron is hurting. And I have a lot of angst because of Salatut Elämät where I am sure that Larias will be the end-game, but that would be a scandal if you ask me because Lalle (Lari and Kalle) are made for eachother! So because of that I do need a storyline with an end, because when it ends, even though it might not end how I want to, there is nothing to do about it because it has ended, and there is no point of angst.

Anyway, Botineras. Botineas is an Argentinian telenovela and it is a lot about football. the wod botinera seems to mean football wife or a least someone who is desperate to become a football wife. But the gay storylines central figures doesn't sem to want any football wives, because they seem to only want eachother.

Manuel and Lalo.

This is Manuel and Lalo. They play in the same football team and taakes liking of eachother, Manuel "Flaco" Riveiro (Christian Sancho) is the married star of the team and Gonzalo "Lalo" Roldán (Ezequiel Castaño) is the younger newcomer of the team. And there are sparks! Both are closetered when the storyline starts, but there are snogging already in the first episode of the youtube-playlist. And, as told, I love it! The actors have great chemistry, the storyline is quite interesting, the actors do a ggod job as well and the special scenes between them is so beautiful composed! Let's just say: Coldplay - Trouble and strings! I have really big expectations on this storyline, and it has already given me some latino fire! Love it, love it!

Telenovelas: Paulo & Miguel

There is something called telenovelas that has been intriguing me for some time now. We don't have that at all in Sweden. Right now we actually don't have any soap operas at all, and I don't think we would have any soon. Soaps are really out of date in Sweden. Boring! But the Great Britain, Germany and USA are providing me with what I need. So, what is a telenovela? It is a soap opera in miniseries format, where the number of episodes are planned and limited from start. The program format has its origin in Latin America where it's particularly popular in Brazil, Chile and Mexico among others. But we have them in Europe to. Germany had Rote Rosen, in which Alexander Becht from Gute Zeiten, Schlechte Zeiten starred. But unlike Lenny Cöster in GZSZ, his character Brian O'Reilly was straight. Also Croatia and Spain has telenovelas, and they are very popular in Portugal. I love the concept! But I hadn't had any experienes of them. But then a faghag friend of mine told me about the storyline of Paulo and Miguel, and it happened to be a telenovela! And I loved it, I have to say! I love that it was a nice love story with a beginning and an end, and that I don't have another soap storyline to follow. They are so many right now...

Miguel and Paulo.

But, Paulo and Miguel. Their love story was to be seen in the Portuguese telenovela O Beijo do Escorpião, which means Scorpions kiss, from 2014. The story is about a couple of familys in Lisboa with and there is a shopping mall in focus, but bla bla, let's concentrate on Paulo and Miguel. They are both pilots on a privat jet company and Paulo Furtado (Pedro Carvalho) is deeply closetred because he has a really homophic asshole boss who would sack him if he knew about his sexual orientation. He is best friends with Miguel Macieira (Duarte Gomes) who is a quite sleezy womanizer, but a loyal friend. Until he realizes that he has ended up in bed with Paulo while they were really drunk, and then he becomes a real bastard. I guess that Miguel actually is straight but of course, he falls in love with the lovely Paulo.

Miguel and Paulo on their special day.

If you would want to see this storyline and not want to read any spoilers you should stop reading now. The story ends well with a wedding at the airport where they are both wearing shorts. I wonder if that's common i Portugal to marry in shorts... But anyway, I think it is so interesting how the story usually goes in soap operas and other series when there is a gay couple. I have written about it before, but I will have to do it again. Why soes it always have to be so much violence and why does the abused part always kiss and make up and forgive without winking? Here we have an excellent example of that. When Miguel realizes that he has had sex with Paulo, which he forgot because he was really drunk, he beats up Paulo, he treat him like shit and call him very nasty things, he tries to sabotage at work, he spits on him and he betrays him for his boss. Then Paulo is in a plane crash, Miguel fears that he has lost him and realizes that he loves him and kisses him. And Paulo forgives him without a wink! Why does he do that? Is that how it goes in real life? Unfortunately I think it is more common that we think... But anyway, it has a happy ending, even though it is very quick. It seems like the writers realizes with only a couple of episodes left that they have to wrap it upp and they do want a sunset ending and creates a proposal out of the blue that is not really realistic. But I love it anyway!

Duarte Gomes and Pedro Carvalho.

And I really love this storyline. Ok, the telenovela O Beijo do Escorpião might not be the most fantastic thing ever made, but it is a nicely told story with just the right amount of drama and cosiness, and the story proceeds in just the right speed. Except from the ending. But it is ok. And the actors are really great! Both Pedro Carvalho who plays Paulo and Duarte Gomes who plays Miguel are really good and does a really good job. They have a great chemistry and they manages to convince me that they are in love. I love them both! And if you want to watch their storyline, just follow the link.

And if you would like to watch more telenovelas there are a few with gay storylines. Actually, right now there is an ongoing, also Portuguese storyline in a telenovela called Os Nossos Dias, with a couple called David and Xavier. But I have heard that it is no good, even though Duarte Gomes is playing David. But I think I will give it a chance anyway. Other popular telenovelas with gay storylines are the Argentinian Botineras, the Colombian Niños Ricos, Pobres Padres and the Spanish Un Golpe De Suerte. I will come back to the topic when I've seen any of them!
